HUMIA

Himpunan Ummat Muslim Indonesia in Auckland

(Indonesian Muslim Association in Auckland)

HUMIA stands for Indonesian Islamic Association in Auckland, New Zealand. The organisation started on 20 August 2005.  The Indonesian community looks after and develops the bond between companions through religious activities in the broadest sense. Many Indonesian children were born in Aotearoa, which makes the Indonesian Islamic Community in Auckland strongly love Aotearoa life and culture while embedded in the Indonesian culture. Aware of the value of Islam that has to be maintained and encourage a sense of the belief between Indonesian culture and the New Zealand community's values, we agreed to work together through this association called HUMIA.

Our Maori Muslim brothers and sisters also help the Indonesians blend with them. As we keep within the cultural roots while embedding Aotea's cultural values, we learn from one another.. Our love, life and great foods inspire the gathering in the most momentum and around the discussion when sharing the knowledge of Islam and Indonesian/Maori culture.

Nowadays, lecturers come from internal and external communities, significantly impacting Indonesians born New Zealanders. Hopefully, having these connections will encourage the Indonesian community to blend into New Zealand culture simultaneously. We pray that Allah will lead us to the right path and bless us with mutual respect.
